I bought one of these systems last week and it was delivered yesterday. Yes I know there is a newer version with a case that actually looks like a SNES, but his one is cheaper.
It only has 20 games on it, but they all the game you need are there Zelda LTTP, Super Mario World, Mario Cart (which doesn’t look great on a modern TV), F-Zero, a couple Kirby games, And Donkey Kong Country! There is a way to hack it an load in other ROMs which I may to in the future. I still need to do more research on that.
The main menu is easy to use simple to navigate, and even looks like it belongs on an SNES. There are 3 display options including one that simulates the effect of an older CRT TV, which I haven’t used, but I’ll try it out sometime. There is a good chance this console will end up in my bed room where my CRT TV is. S o no need for the filter. I will need to get an HDMI in, AUX out adapter tho.
One gripe I had with it is that it doesn’t come with a power adapter, they recommend you buy one for a Switch, which is only 10 bucks, it does at least come with a USB cable, and HDMI cable.
Jonah and I had lots of fun playing Mario Cart, and even more fun with the 2 player Kirby game, which I’d never played before, In fact I had never played any Kirby game at all. after he went to bed I spent an hour on Link to the Past. So much nostalgia.
Overall I’m happy with the system and I have no doubt that we’ll get 100 bucks worth of fun out of it.

There isn’t a newer version of the SNES classic. What’s pictured here is the E uropean market SNES classic which is designed to match the European SNES. The American market SNES classic is styled to match the American SNES you are familiar with. Internally the SNES classics for different markets are identical.

These are great fun, the kids play it more than the Switch.

oooh that’ s why it looks different.
Yes I could have gotten the one that looks like the American SNES, but it was more expensive. only like a 10 dollar difference but that was enough for me.

That would almost annoy me. I was going to buy a switch but I couldn’t stomach the price tag

I honestly prefer the Euro design to what we got in America.

yeah its not bad. i just did a bit of research and I guess Nintendo America felt that the Japanese, and European design didn’t feel or look sturdy enough for the American consumer . So they made a boxier, and actually heavier case for us. Basically to make us think “this is built to last”

Earthbound and Secret of Mana, OK. No FFVI/III and no Chrono Trigger?

I just bought the newer version at GameStop for $79 ($86 with taxes), which is the MSRP . You got stiffed. But, they are such a blast. I’ve been playing for a few days with my wife. Amazon sells a two-pack of controller extension cords for $12 or so if you need them.

I might get the extensions , or I’ll play it sitting on the floor of my bedroom 3 feet from the screen for the fully immersive old school experience.
Also holy crap I did get stiffed, thanks a lot Walmart . Al tho the nearest game-stop if 2 hours away. Amazon wasn’t an y cheaper either, unless you bought a used one.

Also, remove the colorful buttons, Americans don't like fun.

I have a real NES hooked up to my TV right now. My wife loves beating me at 2-player Doctor Mario.
I had the house to myself the other night and broke out my original Legend of Zelda (with the GOOOOOLD cart). I’m pleased to report the little 30-year old CR2032 inside still has enough power to save.

No i just bought the older version. for some reason at first they only sold the European model, and added the US version later, but you can buy both in the US. they are identical aside from the case, and the controller colors.
